JRLF Studio builds web and mobile apps that do one job properly. Usually something fairly small, aimed at people who are currently doing that job with a spreadsheet and a group chat.

It’s one person, start to finish. That puts a real ceiling on how much gets built at once. It also means nothing is lost in translation: whoever draws a screen is the one who builds it, so what ships stays close to what was planned.

Fewer projects at once, and each one goes all the way to production instead of dying as a prototype.

Right now that’s two. A planning suite that’s live and being used, and a finance tool still under construction. When one’s done, the next one starts.

“What can I make different in the future?”

Jose Lajara started out as a musician. The development came later, in his own time: first AI, then the languages and the fundamentals underneath them, mostly driven by a question he couldn’t put down.

Music is years of repeating one phrase until it’s right. Software turned out to work the same way, which made the switch less of a leap than it sounds.

He builds with AI rather than around it, and a fair amount of the skill is knowing which half of the job belongs to the person. The studio is a business. It’s also what he’d be doing on a Saturday.
